WWII RAF survival fighting knife with cut down sheath.

The same style knife was carried by SOE operatives and special forces, but this example id RAF marked with a broad arrow and 27C stores ref. number. Also marked as made by Rodgers, Sheffield, England. Overall length 12.5", blade 7". Very good condition, nicely blued blade, some wear to the wooden hilt. Comes with a fitted leather sheath which is perhaps not original or has been cut down to better fit in a survival kit such as the Beadon suit.

RCAF Type B-2 flying helmet with GP&R 1944 dated oxygen mask.

Incredibly rare and possibly unique set-up, probably for a RCAF fighter pilot. it comprises a RCAF Type B-2 helmet (B helmet modified for attaching the mask with snaps each side), further modified by adding RAF type rubber earcups and noise attenuating rubber surrounds on both sides (similar to the RAF Type D helmet). Fully wired with the scarce RCAF wiring, receivers and hard rubber bell plug. Fitted with a Gutta Percha & Rubber company oxygen mask dated 1944. The rubber surrounds on the earcups have hardened and split in a few places, but are still present and could perhaps be improved for display (or left as is). Mask is still supple and fitted with its wired-in microphone. Leather helmet is in great shape. Helmet has further been modified by fitting a more secure chin strap. This is the first and only set up of this type I have ever come across.

USAAF SW-141V push-to-talk switch assembly for use with T-30 throat mic. or mask mounted mic.

SW-141 push-to-talk switch assembly worn mostly by USAAF bomber crews to enable communication between crew members without interference. Plastic switch housing is excellent and well marked. Fitted with a cord lanyard for wearing around the neck and with leads and 2-pin socket for the microphone plug. There is one break in the rubber coating on the lead, though the wring inside is still intact and strong and could very likely be repaired quite easily with care. Apart from that the cables are strong and flexible—but priced accordingly.

USSR WWII Flying Gloves with mitten finger covers.

You have to see and touch these gloves to appreciate the incredible quality. Butter soft leather and exquisite workmanship (not something we often think of with Soviet equipment). Fleece lined gloves can be turned into mittens for extreme cold, by flipping the covers over the fingers - similar to the types worn by the RFC in WWI. Held on by an elasticated strap on the back of the hand (elastic slightly stretched out) and an adjustment strap with snap fastener on the inside of the wrist. One has a faded linen label on which I can make out the word "Mockba" (Moscow).

RAF issue tube whistle with chain, carried on Mae West for distress signalling.

Initially these "tube" style or "pealess" whistles were used by the police, including the RAF military police – but were frequently procured and carried by aircrew flying over enemy territory in order to locate each other after baling out, either on land or over water. In 1943, a "snail" type whistle (with a pea) was introduced because had had a louder, deeper tone which could be heard from greater distance - but photos of RAF fighter pilots and bomber crews from 1941 and 42 show this tube type attached to the Mae West by a chain, as in this case. Excellent condition retaining all its chrome plating and crisp Air Ministry markings.

WWI Imperial German Air Service flying helmet in grey leather.

Leather flying helmets of this simple style were worn by aviators of most nations in WWI, with certain characteristics being associated with certain air forces - for example the leather "lopp" at the crown for attaching a streamer or scarf for ID is associated with German, Prussian and and Austro-Hungarian flyers. The same basic style remained in use long after the war (until the late 1930s) making positive ID of wartime patterns quite difficult. However, this helmet ticks many of the boxes and the fact that it is produced in grey leather, rather than black or dark brown, is not only scarce, but indicates likely pre-1918 use, since grey leather was very popular with German Air Service (a surviving flying helmet belonging to Mannfred von Richtofen in the RAF Museum is constructed of grey leather). Anyway - it is what it is and I believe it to be pre-1920 vintage. It is in excellent condition.

RAF Mk IVB flying goggles, with polarizing sun screen, in fantastic condition.

The better design of the 3 variants of  MkIV goggles introduced into RAF service simultaneously in June 1940. This pair of Mk IVB goggles is in stunning condition; excellent frames, scarce tinted lenses (showing light delamination), perfect loops and still fitted with the original flip-up polarizing sun screen for spotting the "Hun-in-the-sun." The sponge cushions are also intact and still soft. Leather strap is well-marked. This set would be very difficult to upgrade.

RAF Type B flying helmet, as worn in the Battle of Britain. Superb condition.

Absolutely superb RAF Type B helmet. It appears to be almost unused (almost) with a little storage wear, nothing more. Size 2 (medium) but very generously cut and probably closer to a 3. Leather superb, chamois lining completely clean, retains leather zip pullers, metal V-tip on chin strap and both leather coverings on Bennett's buckles – it even has 100% of paint on press studs/snaps. Lovely crisp A-crown-M stamp on right hand side and a good label inside with contract information. Name written inside is R. E. Byrd Cmdr. I can't quite believe that is the Commander Richard Byrd of the USN, although he did serve in WWII and may have acquired a B helmet while serving alongside Royal Navy personnel. It's just a name but makes it interesting. I promise you will not find a better example of a Type B helmet.

RAF Type E* oxygen mask complete and in very good condition, with original narrow tube and Type 48 mic.

Very good RAF Type E* oxygen mask, still fitted with its original narrow gauge tube (hose) secured by a  metal circlip. The soft rubber mask body is in very good condition, with no hardness, no stickiness and fully pliable. No visible cracking or crazing - just some slight misshaping from storage. The tube is completely flexible with the slightest hint of surface cracks in between the corrugations. The chamois edging shows only storage soiling. Fitted with a good Type 48 microphone. These very rarely turn up with the narrow tube still attached - most were separated and used as mic. carriers after the Type G mask was introduced in 1943.

RAF Type B helmet by Reliance, personalized and modified for E* mask.

Wonderful Type B helmet in a generous size 3 (large) made by Reliance (1940-41). Helmet has obvious signs of use - a true combat veteran - but no damage or abuse whatsoever. It has been modified by removing the female snaps/studs for the Type D mask and installing 3 male studs/snaps for the E* mask )although it would also work perfectly with the E or G mask as well). It has also been personalized by having the initials "BG" hand-painted on the left hand side, above the zipped ear cup. Leather is in great condition, soft and flexible; lining shows evidence of Brylcreem, but for all that, helmet retains its telephone holders, metal V-tip on the chin strap, both Bennett's buckles are intact and leather zip pullers are present. An absolute gem of a Type B with a rare manufacturer's label and in a large size - what more could you ask for?

US Army / AAF / USN Polaroid 1021 all-purpose goggles.

Though issued as "All-Purpose" goggles, these proved popular with aviators in both the AAF and USN – and also with the RAF (notably RAF ace Ginger Lacey is often pictures wearing these). Very good condition; the rubber is flexible and the elastic stretches perfectly. The sponge backing is a little dry but not perished or flaking at all and still springy. Good green lens fitted.

8 original wartime photos of

B-29 nose art pin up girls.

8 original photos of pin-up girls painted on the nose (and in one case te engine nacelle) of B-29 bombers haded towards Japan. Photos are in good condition and good size, varying from 5" x 3.5" (14cm x 9cm) to  4.5" x 3" (11cm x 8cm) approx. I don't believe these have ever been published.

RAF thermally insulated "Irvin" flying jacket with the yellow painted hood as issued to Coastal Command and Fleet Air Arm pilots and crews.

Lovely used example of this iconic jacket made from reversed sheepskin painted with a dark brown waterproof coating. Overall very good condition and large size - retaining its Air Ministry label in the neck. Based on the pattern I would say late 1942 –early 1943.  This is the version with the yellow painted hood as an aid to visibility during sea rescue and was primarily worn by Fleet Air Arm and Coastal Command flyers. No damage (tiny surface nick on the right shoulder). Sleeve zips have been professionally replaced but look great, main zip is original - all work perfectly. Thick honey coloured lining is superb. Overall surface is beautifully worn with a nice dull patina leaving it soft and flexible.

Extremely rare Luftwaffe enlisted man's visor cap for the esteemed Hermann Göring Regiment.

Original examples of this rare cap very rarely surface, and this example is in absolutely superb condition. Made from officer quality gabardine wool and featuring the white waffenfarbe of the Hermann Göring Regiment, the cap has a polished visor with green checkerboard pattern underneath and a patent leather chin strap. The orange cotton lining with undamaged sweatshield lists a Berlin maker, size 56-1/2 and a date of 1938. It is additionally marked under the sweatband with the stamp of the 16th Battn. IV Regt. Hermann Göring. Light tan leather sweatband shows only light wear and there is very light soiling to the white piping from handling. Aluminium eagle and winged cockade, with painted finish showing light wear. An outstanding example of a very rare and highly-desirable cap.

3 x Luftwaffe photo postcards from WWII + one later postcard-size image signed by Walter Wolfrum.

Classic wartime "hero" postcards featuring Molders, Udet and Wick, all Knight's Cross winners. All in great condition, the Wick postcard is slightly stained and has writing on the back (but no stamp) and has also been removed from an album. The fourth is a more recent postcard showing a wartime photo of another German pilot Walter Wolfrum and is signed by him. I cannot tell if it is signed in sharpie or if it is a facsimile signature and part of the printing, so it is a priced as a facsimile. Price for all four together.
