RARE WWII Army War Savings Campaign Plaque for 1944

Beautiful display accessory for a British military collection! Large and quite heavy plaque moulded in ivory coloured plastic (De La Rue plastic, which was a type of bakelite)  and measuring 23" x 14" (59cm x 36cm) featuring a 3-dimensional relief of a British soldier going into battle. A beautiful item, which at first glance appears to be carved in ivory. These were presented by the War Office to towns or municipalities which raised significant funds for the war effort.  The material is brittle and few of these have survived intact. This example has two very small, minor chips in the bottom corners. Fitted with picture wire to the reverse for hanging. Though scarce like the RAF examples, they are not considered as valuable because of the literal depiction of the soldier. However, it makes a great companion to the RAF plaque.

WWII B-3 Flying Jacket artwork.

From a very old collection, this piece of artwork was cut from a damaged B-3 flying jacket and framed many years ago. Sadly, based on the condition of the leather/shearling, I think these days a more informed collector might have attempted restoration of the jacket, but back in the 1970s, when this was cut and framed, jackets were cheap and plentiful, and the artwork had more of a novelty value. Still a great piece of art featuring a very well known cartoon duck character! Were the jacket intact, even if damaged, I am sure it would be worth several thousand dollars.

WWII "Ministry of Information" poster regarding RAF bombing successes.

Fantastic piece of artwork depicting Wellington bombers attacking Germany while fending off German fighters. Highly stylized. Carries the simple message that British bombers have carried out over 1,600 raids on Germany up to May 1941. 20" x 15" (51cm x 38cm). Bright colours, folded and has one small tear but no missing paper and this does not detract.

Fantastic and rare original 1916 WWI Recruiting poster featuring RFC artillery spotting aircraft and heavy artillery gun and crew silhouetted against a blue sky.

"Be honest with yourself. Be certain that your so-called reason is not a selfish excuse  – Lord Kitchener. Enlist Today". Colour recruitment poster, No 127, published by Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, London, 1916. This original poster is in absolutely superb condition, fresh and bright ink showing no fading. Very slight damage to bottom left hand corner on border (not affecting image) which has been professionally retouched, and mounted on archival linen for framing. Unusually it features both air and ground forces in co-operation as well as the quote from Lord Kitchener. Approx. 20" x 30" - an absolutely superb poster!

Extremely rare and long out of print biography by US Marine Corps fighter pilot "Combat Aerial Escapades" by J. Hunter Reinburg.

Combat Aerial Escapades - a pilot's log book by J. Hunter Reinburg, was published in a very limited run, privately, by the author in 1966. This copy is signed and dedicated by the author and further annotated by a former RAF aircrew to his friend, a long time collector of some repute. A great read by a very interesting fighter pilot.

It includes his original Funeral Card" with portrait plus one other studio portrait and another pre-war photo of him in civilian clothes with a girl - perhaps his Fraülein or his sister. One of the best known and widely loved autobiographical accounts of the Flying Tigers, "God is My Co-Pilot" was written by Colonel Robert L. This is the 1976 ballantine edition of the book, but it is signed in person by Colonel Scott, and included is a black and white photograph of Scott which he has also signed on the back. The book is in excellent condition, with minor wear and very slight yellowing to the pages but no damage. 2 signatures for the price of 1!

617 Squadron Dambusters Lancaster print signed by 15 members of the squadron who flew on Operation "Chastise" in WWII – PLUS Sir Arthur "Bomber" Harris and Leonard Cheshire (17 historic signatures altogether)

An amazing piece of history. Let me begin by stating that what you are buying here are the signatures, not the art. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful aircraft profile by well known aviation artist Keith Bloomfield (drawn for the RAF Museum), but the print shows evidence of water damage, and some of the signatures, which were executed in ink using fountain pens, have faded with time. It was like this when I acquired it many years ago. I have had this framed and on my wall and it displays very nicely. Under glass, the water damage hardly shows; it's just a little light water marking along the bottom edge with a little surface bubbling to the paper in the bottom right hand corner. It does not affect the print, nor the signatures (those have faded from exposure to light and time). The signatures read like a who's who of Bomber Command heroes: David Shannon, Willy Tait, Harold Hobday, Douglas Webb, William Reid, Bill Townsend, Geoff Rice, Basil Feneron, Toby Foxlee, Leonard Cheshire, D. Heal , Ray Grayston, W. Howarth, Len Sumpter, G.E. Johnson, George Chalmers and Arthur Harris.

Reid, Townsend, Tail and Feneron signatures are slightly faded but perfectly legible. Arthur Harris' signature has faded badly. It can still be seen but barely - but it is there.

George Johnson is the only surviving Dambuster.

Reflector Gunsight Glass from Spitfire flown by RAF Polish Ace Jan Falkowski.

Fantastic piece of history! This is the glass oval from the reflector gusight in a Spitfire flown by RAF Polish Ace and Battle of Britain pilot Jan Falkowski, complete with provenance including personal letters from Falkowski concernng the glass and all original packing material. The glass had been broken and he wanted to replace it, so another historian arranged for a replacement piece in exchange for the original pieces. These pieces have been rassembled carefully (like a jigsaw puzzle) though one small piece is missing. Imagine what Falkowski saw through this glass! I have it displayed in a small shadow box (it looks great) but it will be removed and carefully packed for shipping. This lot includes multiple original signatures. I will also send buyer more photos i electronic form. Falkowski flew with 32 squadron in the Battle of Britain, then the famed 303 squadron among others, finally commanding the 3rd Polish Wiing. He received the DFC and top Polish awards and ended the war as a POW. He moved to Canada after the war and ran a flying school.

Several souvenir RAF Bomber Command reunion dinner menus for 1977, 1980 and 1981. The 1977 menu is signed on the back by Sir Arthur "Bomber" Harris, MRAF. It includes the original dinner invitation. The 1980 menu also includes the invitation and an itinerary of events. There are 3 copies of the 1981 menu which also includes a printed itinerary. Art print "Portrait of Poland" by Arnold Hodgkins and signed by WWII Polish RAF Ace Jan Falkowski.

The painting was produced to commemorate the release of Falkowski's book "With the Wind in My Face" and was reproduced as a frontispiece in the book. Falkowski was one of the most famous Polish RAF Ace fighter pilots. He arrived in the United Kingdom on 27 June 1940 and was assigned to No. 32 Squadron RAF. He shot down his first plane on 16 January 1941. During the battle, his plane was badly damaged, Falkowski had to jump with a parachute and broke his leg on landing. After treatment he was sent to the No. 315 Polish Fighter Squadron. In August 1941 he downed three Bf 109s over France. In September he scored two victories. He also served in No. 316 Polish Fighter Squadron and No. 303 Polish Fighter Squadron. On 30 January 1945 he was named commander of the 3rd Polish Fighter Wing. On 9 March 1945, he was hit by flak, bailed out and was fired upon by the Germans. One of the bullets wounded him in the leg and he was taken POW. Falkowkis had a limited number of prints produced from Hidgkins painting which he mostly gave away to friends. I have two available  - one signed and one unsigned. Will be sent rolled up, ready to frame. 59cm (23")  x 45cm (18").
