Wartime US Navy contract Type AN6519-1 life vest in excellent condition.
Excellent example of the late war life vest – essentially a Type B-4 redesignated as AN6519 after the joint services agreement to streamline equipment for compatibility. This example has the more scarce wartime US Navy contract prefix N288S. It has a manufacture date of April 3, 1945, making it a good wartime production piece. It was evidently reissued from stores at a later date, because a later owner has added his name, Rawlings, and the date July 4, 1950. Condition of the vest is just superb. The rubberized fabric is flexible with no hard or worn spots and no damage. Very slight water staining to the collar. Retains all correct straps and inflation chambers, with oral inflation rubber tubes also in perfect condition.

Stunning WWII US Navy winter flying boots Type M-380B.
The Navy equivalent of the AAF A-6 boots, made from heavy shearling with a polyacrylate coating, reinforced with leather and a rubber shoe / galosh section. These boots show only very light wear to the heel of the rubber soles but are in quite remarkable condition. They have double zip fasteners (one goes up, one goes down) and laces at the back to ensure a tight and secure fit but yet easy to put on and take off. Leather, shearling and rubber all super pliable. One of the zips on the right boot is stuck closed and I don't want to force it, with the bottom 2 or 3 teeth slightly separated, but this doesn't affect the appearance or functionality of the boots (the second zip is fine) Manufactured by Hood and size Ex-large.

RFC / RAF Mk I flying helmet dated 1918.
Scarce WWI dated Mk I flying helmet, with WD / broad arrow property mark and manufacturer's label dated 1918, plus original owner's name and address. Fur lined interior shows its age and some of the fur has moulted, but the leather is in very good condition and the helmet displays well. The Mk I helmetwas introduced in 1918 and remianed in service until 1930, and wartime dated examples are rare indeed. A lovely item, worth researching.

Early USN / USMC NAF1092 intermediate flying helmet with
TH-37 receivers and wiring.
Scarce early model of the NAF1092 intermediate flying helmet made from soft cape leather rather than the more common, later, goatskin variety. Leather and chamois lining are both in excellent condition, glove soft and showing only light use (one tiny puncture to leather above right ear). The brow/peak still present and has a partial factory/batch stamp visible. Nice "powder puff" pads inside the ears. Good label and size tag (6-7/8 but as with most USN helmets, a very generous cut). Hard leather chin cup and standard leather pockets on each side housing a set of Telephonics TH-37 receivers complete with rubber wiring loom and 2-pin female plug. Hard to find a better example and though the 1092 is not rare, these early leather models are scarce and desirable.

RARE Fleet Air Arm aircrew/battledress blouse and trousers for a Midshipman TAG (Telegraphist Air Gunner).
Not to be confused with the "Officer's working dress" which was a similar battledress design but with gilt buttons and only for officers - the Royal Navy
introduced "battledress" - for aircrew only - very late in the war. Made of dark blue serge, it was essentially a flying suit and was to be worn only while on ops. This example is for a Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Reserve Auxiliary, (note "wavy" gold lace on his lapel badges) with the rank of Midshipman (equivalent of a Warrant Officer) who served as a TAG (Telegraphist Air Gunner), most likely on Swordfish or Avenger aircraft. Blouse is dated 1945 and trousers are dated 1946 but this is a matched set, both in size and degree of wear. Shows light to moderate wear and some minor mothing here and there, but nothing that detracts. A very rare flying suit in overall good condition.

WWII era linen British Union Flag.
Wartime British Union Flag (or Union Jack) printed on linen and overall very good condition, with a few worn spots and very small holes, fraying in some corners, but no significant damage. Marked "British Made." Colour is rich, not faded with minor stains from age and storage. Perhaps not military but very good quality and probably made to decorate towns and villages after VE-Day. 66" x 36" - great for backdrop or table cover!

WWII issue "flat" pilot wing.
The standard "issue" pattern pilot wing awarded to qualified pilots upon graduation from about 1942. Flat back, embroidered with cream silk thread and orange-brown wreath on a woven wool background. Stitch holes and loose thread indicate it was sewn on a uniform but shows very little sign of wear. Perfect example.

RNZAF flight observer's Sight Log Book and original "O" brevet.
Being the smallest of the Commonwealth Air Forces in WWII, items with confirmed history to the RNZAF do not come up for sale very often. This Sight Log Book and Flight Observer brevet came from F/O W.J. Buchan of the Royal New Zealand Air Force which would be worthy of research. 3 pages of entries from his Observer/Navigator training, from November 1942 to July 1943 flying Ansons and Hudsons. Lovely flat Observer wing which corresponds to the type produced in New Zealand (distinctive shorter top feather) and shows clear evidence of being sewn on and worn.

RARE RCAF Canadian made Type C helmet dated 1942.
This is only the second of these type helmets I have ever come across. Basically the same pattern as the RAF Type C, it differs in using the distinctive Canadian chin-strap/cup which buckles on the left and snaps to the right. It is also fitted with the Canadian external wiring and microphone jack. Helmet is a large size 4, manufactured by National Hat Co. and dated 1942. Overall good condition showing some use. The leather is glove-soft, with some nicks and abrasions, mainly on the top and right hand side; the worst area where the chin-strap snaps into place, but doesn't really detract - and the rarity of this helmet more than compensates. Chamois lining is clean, with crisp ink stamp and Canadian property mark. Helmet is fitted with correct wiring loom, Type C-3 receivers and solid rubber bell plug. Snaps for the fighter pilot version of the GP&R oxygen mask (hook mounted to right hand side). A super rare helmet.

RAF Battle of Britain iconic Mk IIIa flying goggles.
This week's "Battle of Britain" offering, commemorating September as being the height of the battle which took place 84 years ago. These were the standard issue RAF flying goggles when the battle began in July 1940 - though they quickly fell out of favour with pilots, expediting delivery of the Mk IV series and bringing to the "Mk II" or "Goggles, Flying, Lightweight" out of retirement. A very good pair; excellent frames and pads, nice acetate lenses, solid strap (although a couple of the metal springs have expired on each side, the others remain good and strong). Leather back strap with great markings and a date of 1939. One of the fold-stoppers is absent. The minor defects are reflected in the asking price.

Excellent RAF MK VII flying goggles complete with rare polarizing flip-up sun screen.
One of the most difficult of the RAF goggles to find these days, beig complete with the flip-up sun screen. In my honest opinion, the most attractive of the RAF issue goggles, with their ultramarine-painted curvy brass frames. The sun screens were issued with the goggles only for a short time, after which they were available by special request only – hence there are far more goggles than screens out there today. This set is in excellent condition, showing only light use and almost no mis-shaping to the brass frames. Clear lenses with little sign of delamination and a screen that is flat with no warping. There is very minor paint loss; the leather pads and nose-piece are superb and the strap retains its elasticity. A lovely example.

AAF Kit, First Aid, Aeronautic, 1944 issue with contents.
1944 modified Kit, First Aid, Aeronautic as issued and fitted in most AAF aircraft - complete with (I believe) all contents, including scissors, tourniquet, adhesive compress tape, various dressings, box containing medications as listed. I believe the syrettes are empty reproductions. Canvas case is the less common khaki rather tha OD green. Zip has separated from cotton runner for about the first inch, but does not interfere with the function as long as care is taken (I have opened it about 3 times to check contents and photograph). A lovely set which makes a great display.

RAF Battle of Britain period Type B flying helmet.
Very nice example of the classic Type B flying helmet, synonymous with Battle of Britain fighter pilots, though worn by all RAF aircrews from 1936 and throughout WWII. Leather is in great shape with no damage, just a couple of tiny surface nicks. Good chamois interior with a nice AM embroidered label. Zips work perfectly and inside are the original rubber receiver holders in good, pliable condition. Zips retain leather pullers. Original sponge rubber cushions were inside the receiver housings but are crumbling to dust, so I removed them and replaced with new, old-stock RCAF cushions. Originals will be included with sale. Leather covering has worn off the triangle on the chin strap Bennett buckle, and metal tip absent from chin strap, but rear strap retains leather covering. A generous size 2 (medium) which fits perfectly on a dislay head and has that wonderful "look" when displayed (see pictures).

RAF MK IVB flying goggles complete with tinted lenses and flip-up polarizing sun screen.
Classic and iconic Battle of Britain era flying goggles as issued to RAF fighter pilots with the flip-up polarizing sun screen for spotting the "Hun-in-the-sun." A rare example with the sun-shield intact, this pair of goggles is also fitted with very rare tinted lenses, suggesting they would have been issued to a fighter pilot. Frames are in very good condition, retaining original paint and no dings are dents; the black rubber cushions have hardened and partially broken away, as usual. Leather nose pad and strap are excellent. Large ear loops are in good shape and leather strap is nicely marked with A-crown-M and stores ref. information. Lenses are free of any signs of delamination and sun screen, through very slightly warped, operates smoothly.

Luftwaffe Model 306 large lens flying goggles, boxed with extra lenses.
A good set of Luftwaffe Model 306 flying goggles, complete with original cardboard box and a set of extra clear lenses in cotton pouch. Large glass lenses in good frames with minor paint loss, twin adjustment screws on the brow bar and separate dark grey rubber cushions. Maker marked O.W. to back of bridge (Otto Wagner). Ribbed elastic strap still has plenty of stretch in it (one short area with loss of elasticity, but no weakness to fabric). Cushions are in excellent shape, soft and flexible. AAF B-4 life vest in excellent condition dated April 1944.
Excellent B-4 life vest, dated April 1944 and appears to be in unissued condition. There are no names, ID or service numbers written or printed on the vest, just the factory nomenclature which is nice and clear and what looks like the initials MW lightly in pencil at the corner of the chest reinforcement rectangle. The rubberized fabric is perfectly flexible with no hard spots or wear. The back of the collar is slightly curved in it's "at rest" position (probably from storage) but still flexes perfectly. Original rubber tubes for oral inflation also flexible. Dye marker pouch has been cemented into place between the front and rear lobes and pull tabs are still bound with whipcord. All straps and hardware in excellent condition with light oxidation on rivets securing the straps in place. Very hard to find one in such good condition.

American Optical Airway goggles.
Theough available commercially, these goggles were very popular with AAF flying crews and were often issued to student pilots because they were less expensive than B-7s, and featured celluloid lenses, which were much safer in a landing accident (a common occurrence!). This pair is in great condition and has replacement cushions which will not deteriorate as the originals did. Good strap, frames retain black finish.

WWII US Navy cold weather face mask and neck protector.
Tan/khaki wool felt with a cream coloured felt lining, these cold weather masks were issued to all naval personnel who might be serving on deck in conditions of extreme cold – including aircrews and those servicing their aircraft, gunners in turrets etc. This is the less common khaki variant – most were dark blue. Adjusts to fit snugly with a strap and buckle across the head and buttons around the neck. Nice example showing minimal use, with a couple of pinhead moth nips but these are insignificant out of sight when displayed.

Large, swept wing RCAF Air Gunner brevet.
Lovely, worn and sewn on large, swept wing RCAF Air Gunner brevet. Beautiful example with loads of character. Has obviously been kept in an album or frame because there is evidence of glue residue on the back, but this doesn't detract. The distinctive curved, swept wing style is uniquely Canadian. Badge shows wear to the letters — especially the "A" from harness straps. This badge has
wonderful "been there" appeal.

Luftwaffe LKpN101 summer flying helmet with all communications and long cord.
Very good and complete example of the Luftwaffe netzkopfhalbe summer flying helmet favoured by fighter pilots. It was produced without a chin strap, the idea being that the oxygen mask completes the headgear and serves to hold the helmet in place. This is an early production model with dark brown leather trim and housings for the receivers, plus a long (1 m) cord and beehive plug. The receiver pads are lined with sheepskin and retain their plastic membranes for improved sound. The helmet is fitted with integral throat microphones, Type Mi-4c. There are 3 small nips in the mesh at the right hand rear of the helmet and a larger area of netting over the internal crown strap which shows similar damage. Fortunately these do not show from the front when the helmet is on display. The helmet is a size 55 (medium) and fits a standard male display head perfectly. It is fitted with studs for attaching the 2-strap oxygen mask (10-69 or 10-6701) and is shown with the 10-6701 which is not included, Overall a good displayable helmet.

Outstanding example of the now quite scarce Type G oxygen mask, complete with its correct breathing tube (hose) and fitted with a Type 48 microphone. The mask is in fatastic condition, the grey-green rubber soft and pliable, with no signs of any stress cracks, not even around the lugs supporting the nose wire. The harness is extremely clean but has lost some elasticity. The brown suede lining is fresh and clean - evidently the mask was never issued or worn. The microphone is clean with all paint intact and the short cord and plug ready to go on a helmet. EXTREMELY RARE WWI Royal Flying Corps electrically-heated flying glove liner (single).
Largely experimental, electrically-heated flying clothing was issued only to RFC bomber crews and for a very short time. It was not well-received, because the wires would short out causing serious burns. As a result, few surviving examples
exist. This is a single, left hand silk glove with integral wiring and a short, oiled-cotton covered lead and bakelite plug. Well marked with the broad arrow and "A" denoting Aviation and size 9. Minor rust stains and a hairline crack in the plug–but one of the rarest pieces of RFC flying kit you can find!

RAF Type E oxygen mask, part modified to Type E*.
Rare variation of the Type E / E* oxygen mask. The mask has been partly modified from Type E to ype E* by the addition of the inspiration valve in the lower left cheek, but still retains the leather strap with Bennett's buckle as originally fitted when it was issued as a Type E. I have seen only 3 or 4 in this configuration; whether it was an early alteration carried out at station level or just a shortage of the new elastic webbing straps, I have no idea. Rubber is still stable, soft and flexible with slight deformity at the edge (but no damage or hardening/stickiness). No hose and fitted with a Type 48 microphone, so most likely reissued as a microphone carrier only. With Type E masks now in the "Holy Grail" category, this is an opportunity to acquire a Type E at a much lower price.

RAF wartime Gosport receivers and tubes.
Nice set of Gosport receivers and tubes, commonly known as "profanity strainers" among RAF trainee pilots. Black plastic (Bakelite) receivers, Air Ministry marked, connected to flexible, fabric-covered metal tubing and culminating in a single, aluminium pipe connector. The metal tubing has rusted in a couple of areas and is consequently a bit stiff in a couple of places, but this doesn't affect its functionality and the set is overall in good condition.

RAAF issue "Type B" flying helmet by Lasica's, complete with full-head strap plus receivers, cord and plug.
The more scarce and unusual of two versions
of the "Type B" flying helmet issued to RAAF pilots and aircrews is this example labeled "Lasica's". Both were constructed to the same basic pattern, but the Lasica's version has a wide leather strap which goes around the head, from crown to chin, to secure the helmet and press the telephone receivers firmly against the ears. Black leather (most probably kangaroo) with a chamois lining, narrow brow strap and extra long chin strap, plus zipped husings for receivers which are fitted with Canadian-made telephone receivers, wiring and plug. Excellent condition with a nice Lasica's label and size tag indicating a decent size 7.

RAF issue Air Ministry marked
Mk III flying goggles, dated 1937.
Very good pair of Mk British-made III flying goggles, far more scarce than the identical Canadian made type. This pair is Air Ministry marked and dated 1937. Frames and leather cushions are very good, strap is excellent with no broken or slack springs. Lenses have yellowed and warped slightly but still display just fine. One of the stoppers is missing as is often the case but the hinge is strong. Overall a very good pair of these quite rare goggles synonymous with the Battle of Britain.

RAF Type B helmet by G. Waddington & Sons.
A lovely RAF Type B helmet in in very good condition, complete with its scarce G. Waddington & Sons manufacturer's label. One of the more unusual makers, the helmet is distinctive in having a very heavily padded brow/forehead area. The helmet is complete with both zip pullers, metal "V" tip on chin strap and both Bennett Buckles retain their leather covering. It also has both telephone holders present and a new set of old stock sponge pads to help keep their shape. Zips are a bit sticky. The helmet is AID stamped and has a barely legible name and number inside which looks like Parr or Parks. Label is dated 1941, which was the final year of production for the Type B and it is quite unusual to find one with its label left intact, as most were removed or had the manufacturer information obliterated. Size 2 (medium) but a very generous cut and displays well.

Ultra RARE US Navy evasion / escape gold coin barter kit.
One of the rarest and most sought after items of evasion and escape in WWII. The US Navy gold barter kit, which was issued to only a handful of personnel engaged on special duies which placed them in grave danger. It comprises a solid block of hard rubber, measuring 4.5" x 3.5" x 0.75" (11cm x 9cm x 2cm) sealed down the middle. When cut or pried apart down the sealed seam, 5 gold coins and 3 gold rings are revealed (a total of 0.99 Troy ounces of gold) which could be used to barter with natives or locals for information or assistance in evading capture. Each kit was serial numbered and had to be signed for, due to its value. The value of the gold alone, at today's market price, is over $2,000 with added value in the coins and the extreme rarity of the kit.
