RARE British Army glider pilot training helmet, early war.
Very rare find. These early wartime glider pilot training helmets were based on the design of the first pattern despatch rider helmets, with a more secure chin strap. Pressed fibre lightweight "dome" with flannel lined leather lower section, canvas suspension straps and a leather sweatband with sorbo rubber padding around the rim. Fastened under the chin with Newey press studs/snaps and a leather strap. Finish of oiled cotton painted olive green with surface wear showing a darker green underneath. Shows wear to the outer surface and leather where it has been folded inside the helmet, but no damage. A lovely example of this rare helmet. See last photo for a wartime example being worn by a Hotspur glider pilot.

WWII period RAF Group Captain's service dress cap.
The most scarce variation of service dress cap worn by RAF officers, because the single row of "scrambled egg" on the peak was exclusive to officers holding the rank of Group Captain: Wing Commanders and below had no bullion and Air Commodores and above wore 2 rows. Lovely cap in very good condition, no moth damage and showing only light wear. All the characteristics of wartime production: double sewn seams (not rolled), composite peak with green underside and patent leather chin strap plus a lovely padded pre-1952 "Kings Crown" badge.
